NORTHERN PART OF MYANMAR (BURMA)
With
the northern part of Myanmar
geographically sharing borders with
China and India, where the world's
highest mountains exist and being a
part of Himalayas, its hill
geography results in a variety of
climate and vegetation ranging from
rain forests and alpine forest. The
highest elevations are covered with
snows and rocks. Such a variety
makes the northern part of Myanmar

Yangon via Mandalay and Myitkyina to
Putao.
PUTAO
Being
cool the whole year round, Putao
District is a hiker's paradise with
snow-capped mountains rising from
over 3000 m to over 5000 m around
Putao and often called the
"Switzerland of Myanmar", with
breathtaking panoramic views of snow
capped mountains including
Mt. Khakaborazi (
5886 m ) the highest mountain in
Southeast Asia. Mountain climbing is
new for tourist in Putao, but now
rapidly growing in Popularity.
Mt. Phonkanrazi
is now most visited by
tourist. Putao is not only the
nearest base camp but also the
starting point for trekking
excursions to snow capped mountains.
The best time to visit Putao is
during the months from October to
April, when colorful flowers bloom
in the fascinating-forested
mountains and when the peaks of the
mountains are covered with snows.
Apart from Mt. Phonkanrazi there are
numbers of magnificent virgin
snow-capped mountains waiting to be
explored by local and foreign
visitors. In fact, your trekking and
hiking tour are, of course, more
fulfilling when doing in such a
tranquil and perfect environment.
Putao is now on its way to capturing
the imagination of international
travelers.
MYITKYINA
Capital
of Kachin state. With the town lying
at some slightly distance from the
confluence of the Maikha and Malikha
River, it is noted for it's the
source of the Ayeyarwaddy River in
beautiful setting. Kachin Manaw
festival is of interest. It can be
reached by air from Yangon.
BHAMAW
Situated
about 187 km south of Myitkyina is
Bhamaw. With the Ayeyarwaddy river
narrowing into its 14 mile long
Second Defile near Bhamaw, unique
opportunity to make boat ride
excursions from Bhamaw into the
second defile is given to the
travelers by the Ayeyarwaddy river.
Excursion by boat into the second
defile is a leisurely and pleasant
way to enjoy the most spectacular
scenery of this defile with exotic
high cliffs over the river. And it
is also an unforgettable experience.
